sorry guys, i'm half a day ahead

So, some of you might have known, I made a day trip to Tremblant and ended up with a head start in skiing before Vermont with you guys. Its really fun!! And I am aching all over even though I only skied for less than 4 hours. I didn't even attempt more than the baby practice slope cos by the time I felt comfortable enough to go up to the mountain, it was terribly windy and misty, visibility was low and the snow was blowing into my face. And of course, too freaking cold.

It was supposed to be a day trip but we decided to just stay one night there eventhough I eventually did not go skiing on the second day due to some unforeseen womanly circumstances. Mont Tremblant is very pretty and I am really falling in love with the Quebec province. Not trying to start a Quebec-Ontario fight but this place is really cool. You guys should all go see for yourself when you go to Quebec City, its really different from Montreal.

Well.. its a typical monday in Kingston.. Cold, wet and dreadfully peaceful as usual.. but yet at the same time.. this monday turned out to be truly remarkable. A stick in the mud out of the usual routine in my exchange life....

Today i woke up at 830am, 3 hours ahead of my usual time to wake up, and went off to take a 10 min walk to Toronto Street. I spent the next 3-4 hours helping a person whom i dont really know move her stuff out. I think she is (presumably) being evicted by her landlord.

These are perhaps sights (of the less forunate) that perhaps we as exchange students see, but never had the chance to delve deeper into.

I volunteered for this when Dan ,the staff worker at Navigators asked for help just last night. The place was (no offence) kinda dirty, smells a little and dusty. I knocked my head quite a number of times shifting furniture from the nooks and cranies in the house onto a big U-Haul moving van. It was indeed an unusual experience. But at the same time, I felt that the people helping her out did so in a fashion that still maintained this person's diginity? I cant explain it..

But i digress!

On the walk home, I thought to myself:

- I am halfway around the world in a foreign land.

- Yet as it is, i am still definitely more fortunate than people around me. I have had the chance to be here in the first place. And as spartan as my house may seem (Pegs will testify to that), I still live in comfort and security that i have a roof over my head for as long as i am in Kingston. Though I say that i live a prudent lifestyle, I dont worry about where my next meal will come from.

- I may not have the best clothes, the best car, the best landed property, i am indeed TRULY blessed by God through my parents to be able to live life as it is.

- I pray and give thanksgiving for that.

I end off this epiphany with a quote that i will always remember from my Company Law Prof ,Lee Pey Woan:

"I sincerely hope that you will always remember to do something for those less privileged than yourslves whatever your future station in life is."

One Thursday morning, the awesomeamericano in hippy Montreal took a 3 hours plus bus ride to spy on the Kingston brothers' life, along with her, her fellow west side story comrade and Finnish neighbour/schoolmate.

The ride was horrible, but at least the route was still pretty scenic even though the yellow and red leaves were all gone.

Kingston was, as expected, not very happening. But I enjoyed the peace in the night. At least, I didn't need to hear screaming people from the club as lullaby. Bobb's herpes infected bed was surprising comfortable. Hahaha. A big bed all to myself! THANKS BOBBS!

Dear Laptop,

I am writing this blog using you (in what could possibly be one of the last few times you're ever going to boot up again). This afternoon, your fan has decided to give up on you but I didnt! I switched you on and off for about 10 times before you finally boot up again..

Without you laptop, i am kinda screwed over in exchange.. I would only have my books and the 4 walls as company in my room..

Please oh please laptop.. Hang in there at least till I get back home to Singapore! I know I have been talking about replacing you with the new Macbook but please dont give up on me. I promise you that i will hand you (after i get you fixed and cleaned) over to the (presumably) loving hands of my parents so that they can use you to learn more about the internet.

In case you are not going to boot up again.. I just want to say you've been a great laptop for the past 3.5 years...

And so the flurry of blog posts comes in from the Canadian side of the Awesome Americanos! =)

Well.. as the great philosopher Nelly Furtado once said: "Why must all good things must come to an end?" and it is aptly the question that will be lingering on in our heads for days ahead.

The Commerce Semi-Formal kinda marks the (near) end of another term in Queens for the most part and Jason and I were there for the event. Ironically.. it was the only time that we used the suits that we brought over for the exchange.. but yes.. it feels nice to look good in any case! =)

While the food wasnt great, it was essentially just like prom back in JC days.. with people taking photos with one another.. Looking back.. I think i have had a fruitful exchange! I have gotten to know more people from other countries than i have know for 24 years of my life.

Florida - Thumbs Up Peace Out

Definitely one of the highlights of my whole exchange experience: sunny Florida. Universal Studios, Blue Man Group, Factory Outlet Shopping, Disney Downtown, Miami Beach - Just to name a few of the attractions that we visited in our short time there. It was good to see our mexican friend a.k.a. gross again after a long time. She was looking more and more like a native mexican. Serene's generous friend Kaiting put us up at his place for the 5 days we were there.

Universal Studios is fun in long form. Today was so Uni Stus means today was so fun.

Gross-es looking cool. There's a small story behind queueing up for this spiderman ride. Female gross spent 20 mins worrying that it was another ride - Doom's Drop. And she only decided it was not when she saw a woman in a wheelchair in the queue. Evil right? Yeah I know.

Our attempt at duelling each other (taking opposite coasters) fail miserably when my dragon decided to fight with itself first.

Blue Man Group. Possibly one of the most enjoyable shows we've seen. An audio and visual feast, complete with non-stop humour.

Factory Outlet. Most entertaining part: The expression on Serene's face when I walked into her buying her unmentionables at Victoria's Secret. (I'm like yeah, watever, its A for Airport)

Drinking poker. No *cough* one got drunk *cough* that night. Everything was good...

Miami Ink. One of our friends got his tongue pierced at one of the stores. It was pretty cool to watch!

2 charming americans who joined us on our trip to Miami. Stephen and Hobbit. The beach was nice but chilly. It have been VERY cold if you were wearing a bikini.

I have exactly one more month in Montreal before the awesomeamericanos head to Vermont/New York. These days, I've been feeling sad that my exchange life in Montreal is coming to an end cos my everyday life kept smacking these little reminders in my face.

Nowadays when my housemates go grocery shopping together, we keep reminding one another that our days here are numbered. For example: "Should we buy the big or small bottle of sesame oil?" "Get the small one lah. Since we only have one month left." After a while it gets a bit depressing. Grocery shopping will always remind me that time is running out.
When I was flipping through my organiser to see when I can visit the Kingston brothers in their little town, I ended up with just one good weekend through elimination. Its definitely due to my own procrastination but its scary to realise that.
Its the same thing when it comes to planning for parties/gatherings with friends here. The elimination of dates process.
One of my upstairs neighbour is leaving soon and is currently having his farewell party.
We had this Gala dinner yesterday, which kinda marks the end of all the exchange activities in HEC cos people should be getting busy with projects, assignments and exams. And you know how such galas/prom always make you feel emo and sad about leaving your friends. Eventhough its not exactly "the end", being in an activity which signifies "the end" totally made me feel like its the end.

Profs start talking about final exams.
Starting a countdown to count down to the date of arrival in Singapore when I was looking forward to meet Chan again. Okay, the countdown works both ways. Sometimes it makes me happy, sometimes it makes me sad.

The other day we (the ppl in my house) were looking at all the early emails we sent to one another and laughing at how polite we were back then compared to now and it is really amazing how things have changed. So I went to look at all the early emails between us too. All the doing our online worksheets, confirming one another's choices, talks on banks, currency, flights and of course in between a lot of other nonsense. It all feels so surreal now.

I can't say that this exchange has been extremely fruitful but it sure has been rewarding in its own way. Sometimes I will think that I am not doing enough and not making full use of my time here and wonder if I am staying at home too much, not partying hard enough and not making more friends etc. But then I guess we'll never know what is enough and it is not possible to strike a good balance.

One major takeaway from this exchange is definitely learning how to stay under one roof with 5 other people and try not to kill one another. Indefinitely, there will be certain traits of each person which you totally cannot stand and certain things about him/her which you like. I can go on for hours on this topic on living in a house of 6 and all the stories we have but to cut the long story short, I have learned to be very tolerant, to read people's mood very well and know when you can go nua on their bed and when you should stay out of their way, to not be so "gei gao" with little things, say "Good Morning" even though you are damn grumpy in the morning, to resolve conflicts and to stay out of them. And of course, the "List of edible food Pegs can make" has expanded from hanging out in the kitchen.

Even though sometimes they piss me off big time, nothing beats the 6 of us sitting around the dinner table having dinner together, chatting and laughing (of course, when the sea is calm), chatting till the wee hours in the morning on each other's beds/over beers in the kitchen, trying on each other's new clothes, crowding around a small pot of instant noodles, the very efficient dish washing chain we have developed etc. Its like having the sisters and elder brothers I always wished I had.

And of course all the great friends from all over the world I've made here. Not a lot, but more of quality over quantity. Its sad knowing that in a month's time, we are going to be miles apart, living in different time zones and wouldn't be able to go for brunch, organize parties, cook ethnic food for each other. Even when we all meet up in future, it will never be the same again. Although there are a lot of people I will miss after this month, I am glad our paths crossed and I am thankful that they made this exchange a great experience for me!

Of course, I am also looking forward to spending time with awesomeamericanos and I can't wait to bring you guys around Montreal. Can't wait to give Serene the tightest huggalicious ever, take revenge on Jason the evil piece of shit, eat lunch cooked by Zhicheng and dinner by Bobbs and learn a thing or two at the same time. I miss my family, all my friends, kway chap, orh jian, nas lems, chai tau kway, char kway tiao, fish soup, bar chor mee, tau hway a lot too so I am kinda looking forward to going home as well.

Oh well, we can't have the best of both worlds. C'est la vie. 44days - I just got to make the best out of my remaining time before I am back in the embrace of the people waiting for me back home. :)

~thoughts on exchange~

No pictures.. No funny happenings.. No awesome events.. (the action now is actually in Florida, where Jason has left to gallivant with his partner in crime Serene.. HAHA).. so anyway.. this is just epiphanies on life over here in exchange..

Well it has been slightly more than 3 months since my flight took off from Singapore to New York. What started off as pure excitement and adrenaline has worn off.. and nowadays.. I am simply.. living a life on exchange. =)

Daniel came to visit us a week back and boy was it fun (except for the Jason poker scam where i got smashed)!! HAHA.. Like i have no idea how to explain it.. we didnt do anything extraordinary.. it was just good times my friends... good times =)

And a lil something about my exchange (not the travels... the actual exchange to another university)

a typical day of the week would be something like this:

1. Wake up
2. On my laptop and check mail (ok.. i dont get that many mails, but its just a habit)
3. Wash up
4. Stumble down to make breakfast (usually bread and some spreads and cereal)
- Oh my goodness.. Lucky Charms (a kind of cereal) are really quite awesome
- And also, once a week... Jason and I will have a good breakfast.. something that requires cooking.. like pancakes, scrambled eggs etc etc
5. Open up my fridge, spice cabinet and think what would i make for dinner tonight.
- over in Kingston, I am a part time student, full time cook. I only go to school 3 times a week but i cook a dinner for 3 almost everyday.
6. Defrost and prep ingredients for cooking. Something i learned from my mum: We prep our ingredients early so that we dont need to spend so much time on cooking.
7. Buy groceries. Once a week, I go alone to the butcher to get stuff for the household.
- A side note on this: WAH LAU!! totally becoming a housewife already lah!! what on earth lah..
8. Go school. Stone in class. Download stuff.
9. Go home.
10. Cook dinner. Jason and I have dinner standing up in the kitchen and talking to one another. Its the weirdest way to have dinner but its kinda like a way of life now.
11. Go for bible studies (once a week) and meet my awesome bible study group whom i have come to love. And what do you know: 2 of my bible study group mates (Cindy and Noel) are coming to Singapore on exchange next term
12. Go back home.
13. Shower
- ok its kinda weird.. but oh my goodness.. i realise over here in exchange.. my showering time doubles up as a 20-30 min karaoke session. I apologise to Jason (whose room is where the bathroom is) if i have driven you crazy with the singing.. those high notes can be hard to reach sometimes.. haha
14. Procrastinate / Talk to people on MSN / study / apply for jobs / try to do work / ponder about life / ponder about God / surf for recipes online
- the night is where i get most things done i guess... always have been..
15. Brush teeth
16. Pray
17. Sleep

In any case.. I guess I have been kinda frugal on exchange. My main purpose is not the economic downturn but more because I am running low on cash and I need it to fly to Melbourne next year to attend Jasmine's wedding (this is how much i love you jas (as a friend and sister in Christ))! HAHA! I have been cutting down on eating out, travelling and shopping (ok i dont really shop anyways but still))

In anycase.. it will be 1 month before I move out of Kingston to join awesomeamericanos in Montreal. I guess the feeling would be bittersweet. But yet.. i am happy to see the awesomeamericanos again! haha.. which brings about a point: DICKY!!! HAVE YOU CONFIRMED YOUR TICKET YET?? I WANT TO SEE YOU IN MONTREAL / VERMONT TOO!! ok.. the fact that i am not a girl means dickson will probably not be motivated to do anything about this exclamation of mine.. maybe i shall get angsters or pegsters to do something to that effect..

After reflecting on it.. I realised I havent regret coming for an exchange at all. It really is an experience of a lifetime. (for those of us who are not studying overseas to begin with). I would like to thank God for blessing me with this opportunity.

And also not to forget: Pa, Ma thanks for giving this chance to go on an exchange to Canada even though neither of you have travelled this far out from Singapore before. I love you.

the morning another morning

i wake up to the sound of my old school alarm from my un-coloured nokia phone and realised its 9.30am. i jump out of my bed, hands and feet still shivering from the 8 degrees celcius cold at night (despite my one layer of comforter, one layer of sleeping bag and another insulating red travel blanket, and this is on top of my 3 layers of clothes :/). i quickly grab my wash-up kit, speed to the bathroom and begin my mon/wed/fri routine. international marketing classes have always been a chore to go for, mainly because i dread waking up feeling like im in antarctica, and well partly because its at 10am. breakfast is often either cereal or bread with eggs mayonnaise, ham and cheese (if i've time), or just a cup of nescafe coffee. i usually rush out of my dorm at 10am, arriving to class just in time before the class gets locked at 10.05am. despite the early morning rush, i never fail to enjoy the morning walk to class. mexican students exchanging besos (kisses on cheeks), security guards' sayonara-greetings and cars stopping to give pedestrians the right of way are always such a pleasant sight. that is probably the only form of consolation from the freezing despite being wrapped up in scarves, 2 layers of tops, complete with leggings under my jeans. i make my way to the negocios (business) building and along the corridor i see the usual morning chatterings by a huge array of international and mexican students hanging around outside their classrooms. its 10.04am and i step into class, plonk my bag down beside Winny and my day begins :)

Hello guys, I'm here with freshly taken and uploaded photos from my apple picking excursion. They are appearing here before it is even on facebook and my blog cos I'm so so jealous of the Kingston brothers' awesome Thanksgiving weekend. Haha, compets spirit.

Anyway, David, Clara and Jon (Clara's bf) are here this weekend and we went apple picking at Oka, outskirts of the city of Montreal today. We packed 7 people in their rented dodge, and boy, it was DAMN COSY.

The apple picking experience was fun nonetheless. Weather was awesome today, sunny and not too cold. We get to sit on a tractor which brought us around, fed the goats with our apples, climb trees, climb ladders to reach for the apples at the top of the tree, played baseball/golf/shotput/whatever we could think of with the fallen apples and drank apple cider etc.

They even had cushions on the tractor for us to sit. =)

The colours of the autumn leaves are really very beautiful. Unfortunately, they will all be gone in a few week's time.

-ALI SIFTON!! MARRY JASON (OR ME!!)-

Jason and I had the most awesome Thanksgiving weekend ever over here in Canada. Jason's commerce buddy Ali invited us and a few friends over to her cottage for a Thanksgiving weekend! sounds quite normal right? but the only thing is... her cottage isn't the average cottage. Ali's family (the Siftons) owns land over here in Canada that has been passed down for generations. By land, i mean like eh... the size of say... half of Bishan or something like that? HAHA

It was amazing!!! Their cottage was facing the St. Lawerence River and their family name is on the maps (Sifton Road) and nautical charts (Sifton Bay). When we arrived, we were greeted by the awesome autumn colours as well as the bridge their family owns (basically the government had to ask for their permission to build a highway through their land!)

Then over in the estate, there was the guesthouse we stayed in, the main cottage where her family stays as well as other houses around owned by their relatives. The land also contained a ranch for horses, an equestrian course. 2-3 powerboats, 2 jet skis, wake boarding equipment, a tennis court amongst other stuff. At night, we were treated to a Canadian Thanksgiving dinner with an awesome turkey as well as ham and other things like sweet potatoes etc etc

The days were packed with activities that was simply awesome! its kinda like a Canadian version of Club Med!

1. Marveled at the beautiful environment we were in
2. (attempted to) play lacrosse, American football, rugby
3. Swam and kayak in the freshwater river, which is really quite an experience compared to a swimming pool or a saltwater body
4. We played tennis
5. BBQed marshmallows and made smores in the evening
6. We took boat rides in an awesome power boat (courtesy of Ali's dad) out along the Thousand Islands (that's where the salad dressing gets its name! )
7. Stargazed at night
8. Just lazed on a deckchair in the sun staring at the river / lake. Pondering how awesome God is. (ok that's for me)
9. Watch the sun set and rise
10. And finally.. felt extremely depressed to leave the place... =(

today is our university day, so some of the international friends, zhicheng and i decided to go check out how the mexicans do their thing. and well, its really pretty much the same thing- fiestas anywhere and everywhere under the sun, complete with a dj booth, funfarish games and of cos sol beer :)

oh one of the highlights of the event was the sumo wrestler tournament between zhicheng and yuri, his love-hate relationship partner, with simon and i being their helpers hurrrr :)

pretty good fun considering the fact that we stayed for only a mere hour and a half. zhicheng headed off to the irish pub as usual, while Amy and I had coffee at the Italian Coffee House before i headed back to my dorm. Well, happy la udla day once again!! and I just spoke to bobbs on msn and he said its early Canadian thanksgiving day today so well happy thanksgiving to the 3 of you silly billies. can't wait for us to be reunited in december! and to those in singpurrrrr hang in there!! just 3 more months and you will be freee!! :)

hi friends!

okay i know we have been abiiitt too quiet on this side of the world.well ive been asking zhicheng to blog but he said its my job so here goess...since its beeen waaay too long since we last posted, il just give you guys a gist of what we have been up to all this time.

oh before i start, i know this is dam freaking overdue but i saw the birthday posts for me! THANK YOU SO MUCH DARLINGSSS, esp pegs for the damm sweetish entry dedicated to me heh.heres a hugeassss tightish huggalicious all the way from puebla muackkkkssssss:)

school has been real hectic! okay actually i admit ive been skipping sch quite a bit, especially my 10am morning marketing classes. no dont get me wrong i really do enjoy listening in class i mean its marketng after all! but im really getting not used to waking up at 9am, even though it has been worst in smu with all the 830 classes! hahaha sucha pig i know. okay apart from that, ive been busy with quizes for 2 modules but guess what our mad-rush-studying-the-day-before actually paid off cos zhicheng and i scored like 90 over for our quizes!! i can't even rem whens the last time i actually got 95 for an exam, probably in primary sch?? haha but well the smell of distinction was sweeeeet:) as for spanish, im stil borderline passing it (do rem passing mark here is 75) :/ urghhh learning a language definitely ain't easy but yes we are trying!!

okay apart from school, theres also the poker sessions (5usd for buy-ins hahah) with the mexicans, chilling at cafes that play english songs (cant be any happier for that!), sushi delights (they got fried sushi stuffed with avocado and cottage cheese.exotic stuff hurhur), and on other nights going to the usual clubs along the stretch of road off our dormitory.basically it is really normal to bump into international students/mexican friends along this stretch of our road cos its almost like a whole street streamed with cafes, bars and clubs catered for the UDLA students. well its been pretty safe so far, considering the fact that winny and i can actually walk down the streets at night alone. but apparently i've heard that there was a kidnap case (the kidnapper eventually got caught by the police) at this 7-11ish place just 2 mins from our dorm.other than that, contrary to all the horrifying rumours abt kidnapping/intense drug trafficking ive heard, its been great so far.and well it better stay that way!!

as for travelling plans, im sure some of you have been updated abt what we have been up to. well basically we have signed up for this club alpino thing where we go to different parts of Mexico to do rafting, mountain hiking, repelling etc on 5 of the weekends. so far we have gone for the mountain hiking one already, and the next one coming up is repelling.can't wait for that cos it sounds really exciting! and well i have never done it before so hope it goes well.

as for leisure travelling, so far we've been to Oaxaca, Cacaxtla, Acapulco and Taxco.okay i know the names all sound dam gui but seriously theres really so much to see in the different parts of Mexico. each lil city/state tells a different story cos of the varied cultures. im really immersed in the worst of my procrastinating nua mood (which explains the absence here) so check out all the photos on facebook instead okay!hee hee. theres definitely stil plans on going to other parts of Mexico, cos theres really too much to see! oh oh i might be heading to Mexico city to watch Maroon 5 concert in November, so thats something to look forward to! well now il leave you with some of the more interesting shots!

hello everybody.. just want to share with you the wonder that is homecoming over at Queens!! we are supposedly (in)famous in Canada for our homecoming and just a little background information.. we are in Kingston but riot police from Toronto and horseback policemen from Quebec are here to celebrate with us as well!! =)

The day started with an awesome homecoming match! American football is really one boring game with lots of stops and change of teams (though Jason would disagree being the semi-pro he is by reading some Japanese comic on it! HAHA) But all in all, it was an entertaining one where you get to swear at the referees, curse at the opponents and of course be part of the Homecoming crowd at Queens! Also, homecoming gives a warm feeling to the heart as you see all the students cheering for the "seniors" from many many years ago!

Highlights of the match include:
1. American football
2. Streaker
3. (Where's) Wally
4. Cheerleader whom did a great improvisation when he needed a drum with but had none
5. Purple Engineers

Then came nightfall and this is when Kingston as a city single-handedly gives beer executives in Canada their bonuses for the year!! hah.. the streets was just littered with beer bottles / cans. The crowd estimated at 6000 will usually crowd Aberdeen Street and just flood the place.

Highlights of the night include:

1. Drinking
2. Seeing people drink
3. Talking to drunk people whom know me as David
4. Seeing people get fined
5. Drinking
6. Water fight with the free water that's being given out
7. Seeing people get arrested

Hello puebla and kingston awesome americanos and everyone back home!

Damn it, Bobbs beat me to the Niagara post but its okay, I'm here with more photos of the falls. Niagara falls is really breathtaking. But the entire area feels like a mini Vegas, which wasn't what I expected. You know, I expected the place to be very close to nature, a bit lok kok but well, its a tourist spot after all.

There are a lot a lot of Asians in Toronto. Seriously a lot. I've never heard so much of Asian languages since I left Singapore. Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Koreans etc. And the whole place, the buildings, impatient drivers just reminds me of home. Totally different from Montreal.

it has been 20 days without a post on this blog and i somehow wonder why is it like that? Some updates from Kingston... I have gotten all my mods and is now in the midst of term... my most difficult course is this Masters of Divinity Course ( that is also opened to senior undergrad students) called the New Testament. and a typical thesis that i have to write (i have to write 4 in total) is.... (ready or not?)

"identify the structual components of Paul's letters using Philemon to illustrate each component!!???"

Ok back to everyday life.. this weekend i am all alone in Kingston (lonely hearts.. sobs) cos Jason is away partying in Montreal and Daryl is there too to attend a convention of sorts... But i had to stay cos i have some prior committments in Church.. (ok that's the official story) but jason thinks i have held a wild house party which he doesnt know about... Think entourage... HAHA

Also, i have had my first group meeting for module this week.. and something funny happened.. only the exchange students turned up and well... the Canadians were not there.. i thot this would be kinda like the oppostite to what i had expected cos our grades dont count and theirs do? haha.. oh well.. CANADA EH!!! So after a meeting with Martin from France and Joakim from Sweden (this is bolded cos i called him a German and got hit by him for doing so.. haha), we were all set and gave the rest of the 3 groupmates a debrief instead.

Alright.. so to the main title of this post.. last week.. we went to the Niagara falls to check it out and boy was it awesome!!!! It is really a spectacular sight! Although i had expected it to be much bigger... the area around the falls is highly commercialised with 1 or 2 casinos, restaurants, souvenir shops etc etc and all in all a disappointment considering the (natural) wonder of the falls!

hey everyone!

no photos to show this time round, but its almost a week since Jason and I have been in Kingston. We have made many new friends from all over and life has been good and exciting.

Over in Kingston, "taking things as they come" seems to be the be all and end all attitude for housing and accommodations and modules. As of now, i only have 2 modules (that's a 100% increase from my previous portfolio of modules actually!) and we only just found housing after 3 days of looking. Currently we are still leaving in a motel like place.

With regard to modules, we were told to have faith and trust the academic advisers that slots will open up in the end? It's kinda sketchy but hey we are in a different country after all!

For the past week, I have:

1. Made new friends with tons of other people from around the world! (its quite cool being the minority for once)
2. Went to Wolfe Island and tried out some corn maze
3. Went to Ale House over on Princess Street and had towers (i mean TOWERS) of relatively good Canadian Beer.. KAN PEI!
4. Went over to the houses of 3 different friends to well.. drink, eat dinner and then drink some more (thanks to Simone, John and Julien for opening up their places)
5. Walked the whole of Kingston looking for a good place to leave
6. Drink more again (man i got to start to switch to wine or something, HOW TO LOSE WEIGHT LIKE THAT????)
7. Walked more again (i realize somehow that i am always being overtaken by Canadians while walking on the sidewalk, boy do they walk fast)
8. Had Chinese food at VIP Chinese restaurant 6 times (hey.. they have $3.95 lunch specials which i tell you is a God send! )
9. Noticed that there is something about French girls that is really attractive, i cant put my finger to it though!
10. Attended church @ St. Andrews Presbyterian (well.. it was quite disappointing as i had that churches here have to close down because not enough people attend church over here. I could see why: over @ St. Andrews , I was one of the youngest people, including children and kids, attending the service)
11. Found out from a friend what Eugene in french sounds like (ITS WAY MORE COOL! HAHA)
12. Found out that over in Kingston / Canada, they have Christian TV channels that teaches some weird stuff.. essentially they construct a message by taking different chunks of the bible and putting them together to deliver a message. (essentially its like taking a dictionary and picking out words that you want and constructing a essay)

Finally, just some thanksgiving to be accorded: I am thankful to God for journey mercies over the past 3 weeks of traveling where effectively i haven't stay in a place for more than 3 nights straight. For being kept healthy despite the constant traveling. Also want to say thanks to Peggen, Yiwei (and their housemates) for hosting us over in Montreal! i really had fun over there and you guys were smashing!

Hello everyone! Greetings from Montreal. :)

Arrived on Thursday night after a grueling 13 hour train ride from New York. I'm liking the place so far. It was surprisingly pretty hot the past few days. Felt totally like Singapore weather, minus a bit of humidity. Cooled down a bit today (like 20ish?).

The apartment's nice and I do like it here. My housemates are nice and pretty fun people. Imagine 6 people shopping for groceries, 6 people in our little kitchen. Can be pretty chaotic but we always have our fair share of laughter. 4 days together and we have already starting jacking each other on sensitive issues like height, nationality, school etc so its really funny at times.

There's a bit of language barrier here cos people here predominantly speaks French and even at the banks, some of their English really cannot make it. So its quite frustrating trying to settle important stuff with this language barrier. Hopefully at the end of this exchange, I can communicate with them better. For now, its just Bonjour and Merci. heh.

Orientation has started but it is really damn disappointing. I guess the main attraction is the nightly (yes, I do mean EVERY night) parties at different clubs. I think we had our expectations too high so we found the clubs pretty disappointing so far so we only attend the parties selectively. Haha. Oh well, there's one more week so hope it gets better.

The kingston brothers are here, so hopefully both of them (not just Jason, but both) can join us for the tmr night's party. :))))))))))))))

hey everybody..

just doing a short entry to put in some photos on this blog!! =) Jason and I covered part of San Fran which includes Union Square, Chinatown and Fisherman's Wharf yesterday. Boy is San Francisco hilly lah!! Freaking uphill and then downhill, uphill and then downhill again.. phew... my legs was just killing me yesterday...

And also a trivia pursuit: San Francisco has one of the highest prices for gasoline over here in the US. It is really quite cool to see their efforts to be green and all with lots of smaller cars here (compared to other states), toll-free passing if you car pool as well as the utilization of renewable energy as seem by the wind turbines "farms" along the way.

first of all.. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANGSTERS!!!!! HOPE YOU HAD A GREAT ONE OVER THERE!! =) I think you were sorta high when Jason called you last night!

After a fantastic dinner and drinks session at LV, i must confess i did get high / dizzy from Grey Goose vodka and Barcardi rum from a mad 3 loss in a row playing Indian Poker in the room ok that was a lot of information so let me break it down.

a. GREAT DINNER
b. DRINKS SESSION on top of the Mandalay
c. DRINKS SESSION back @ the room
d. Grey Goose Vodka and Bacardi Rum being the poison of choice
e. Loss 3 times in a row
f. Got smashed and dizzy

Boy was that night crazy! haha.. and well.. that nights dedicated to:

1. Yiwei (Yiwei is first cos our brotherhood got to a new level!)
2. Clara / Peggen
4. Jason (Jason is last cos claiming to be tired, he spent most of the night in his own world)

Moving on, Jason and I are now in San Francisco after a 8.5 hour drive.. To be fair... driving to San Fran was actually quite a nice experience. Starting from the desert region in LV to a cooler climate up north in San Fran, it was interesting to see the scenery change as we move on: From the cactus decorated fields of sand to agricultural plantations growing everything from pistachios, oranges, roses, cherries and tomatoes, the world is really one huge place man.. This is especially augmented by a seemingly myopic Singaporean upbringing where far means having to drive for 25min to Changi V to get that elusive Nasi Lemak.

From here on out, i have come to the last leg of the West Side story and well.. i will miss this one.

With that i leave you guys with a few phrases / scenes of the trip and off the top of my head:

In typical bobbs fashion (the uncool kind.. haha).. i am here blogging and awake after the rest have came back from a night of drinking which i abstained from (yes yes.. holy gucamole syndrome.. haha) .. and no, the peeps are not drunk..unlike in a certain service apartment some time back.. HAHA.. but i did get a call from Pegs while i was sleeping and i was half ready to go out and drive some friends back to the hostel already.. but no it wasnt for that.. it was an invitation (which i rejected cos i was sleeping) for supper at the International House of Pancakes (i think i am regretting favouring sleep over food at this point in time as my stomach cries out in protest)

nights have been weird in NY and LA: i have been striving on less and less sleep every night taking a max of 6 hours a day. Maybe there's something wrong with my sleep cycle somewhere.. haha

The 5 days (has it only been 5 days? feels like forever already) has been really great and eventful. I have witnessed how big God's created world can be and i stand in awe of it! =) to this i praise Him and what comes to mind is this verse from Romans:

For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. - Romans 1:20

Hello my dears in Mexico and everyone back home. (and the 2 guys a few metres away)

We just came back from the beach at Santa Monica and omg, my tan can confirm last me till I get back in January. Bobbs and Jason are probably a bit burnt. Haha. It was quite nice. The sea water was super icy cold but we had fun playing and riding the waves. Just that after every wave gotta make sure that my bikini is still in place. Haha. We had some alcohol too. Not supposed to actually, its against the law but we put them in pineapple juice cartons. Sneaks to the max right?

And yesssss the hotel in New York is damn gross. To everyone reading, please DO NOT go back there. Apart from the santanic pictures (which I'm actually fine with), its just quite dusty and not very comfortable lah.

I drove the car for the first time today. Haha. Virgin left hand drive attempt. Quite exciting. I think it wasn't too bad cos Jason was sleeping quite soundly at the back. lol

Hey! How's it goin everybardeee. Yo Aiiiight.

Finally got my hands on some decent wireless internet! Yo.

I'm in LA now and its 15 hours behind Singapore. The weather here is really nice...about 17-28 degrees. Quite hot during the day but the nights are very cooling.

Before LA, we spent 2 nights in New York at a DAMN CUI hostel called Olde Art Hotel. But since its a VERY budget hotel, no choice. The room super dusty, keep sneezing, then the walls got some satanic paintings of naked women. Really damn scary to sleep in the room. When you see the photos you'll understand. (Will post in due time)

We spent our time in NY walking around the bustling city. Its really a city which never sleeps. Very high energy level and the pace of life is very fast.
We walked to time square and also visited the new york national library. Really very nice.
Our tummies were kept full by eating chinese food cos it was slightly cheaper + its the most healthy thing around.

On the 13th morning, we took a 6 hour flight to LA, where we are now, joined by Clara.
After touching down, we walked around the central area of LA a.k.a. hollywood boulevard road!
Our hostel in LA has a damn good location. Its only a 2 min walk from central area! (Bobbs +500 points after minusing a million for the NY one. lol kidding.)

We caught the play wicked on the first night (VERY SORRY GROSS. We will watch lion king with you). It was simply breathtaking. The stage effects held us spellbound and the storyline was both clever and entertaining. Well worth every single dollar that we spent.
Today, we went to Universal Studios and spent the whole day there! The rides and shows were fantastic.
Tmr, we'll be heading down to Santa Monica Beach for the entire day! =) Time to get the party started heh heh

SO MUCH MORE to write at every juncture but gotta sleep now! Hopefully we will have time to blog in much more detail after this! Or we will get to webcam soon and tell you our stories =)

hi hih ihihihiii im all alone in zhicheng's dorm cos winny and zhicheng are at their spanish oral comms class right now while im waiting for my spanish grammar class to start in half an hour's time.guess what we have been doing since 12pm guys!!we were watching the channel 8 show from mobtv!!! AHA shows how much we miss singapore.and becks we saw you on it! haha so cute you are fann wong's rival heh.ahhh everytime after we are done with one episode of it, we feel like we are in singapore again:) such a nice feeling! okay back to the purpose of this post, i had international marketing class this morning and GUESS WHAT, we found out that the passing mark in UDLA (i digress, the mexicans are dam cute they pronounce UDLA as ood-la) is 75%?!?!?!? so much for hoping to skip weeks of classes and slacking our asses off!urgggg looks like we gotta do some major planning of our schedule so we can secure our 75%. but so far, we haven't had travel plans yet cos we (at least i am) are enjoying this whole dorms lifestyle and we take each day as it comes heh.doing it the mexican way:) plus our passports are still with the school due to some admin stuff.so guess we are gong to be stuck in Puebla for the next 2 weeks!which is of cos a good thing.ahhhh okay i think its time to grab some potato salad from the fridge now before my class starts! til then adios x serene

hello guys! on behalf of zhicheng, i apologise for the lack of news from this side of the continent.whoops our days have been really packed the whole week, and the only times we are in our dorms is probably when we have to go back to put our stuff down, or when we are going to sleep. anyway classes are starting tmr so im hoping that we will have more time to give you all more updates!:) ahh you know, i really really wished you all are here too.its been so good so far, everyone we have met have been so friendly and helpful, always trying their best to help out with directions even though there is often a major communication breakdown cos of the language. but its all good all good, cos we are learning more and more spanish each day and hopefully by the end of our exchange we could have a proper spanish conversation with a mexican. okay to start off, il tell you how our day is usually like. so basically it will start off with each of us making a bowl of cereal (cornflakes and milk=muchos satisfaction) and for lunch, we usually head out to the zocalo (town centre) of puebla/cholula to have some typical traditional mexican cuisine (ie soft/crispy/rolled up/flat tortillas).omg let me tell you, ive never known that there can be so many different kinds of tortillas.always thought that all are the same kind but there are so many different names of each tortilla.the names on the menu always drive me crazy and i always need to have an american/european student to translate it for me haha whoops.but its really worth going through this whole trouble cos i tell you, the food is AWESOME.the flavour of every dish is always so savory and fragrant, really good stuff. as for dinner, we usually do our groceries in walmart, and so we get to enjoy some familiar singapore food!so far we had bakuteh, chicken curry and normal tze char. AHHHHH all thanks to zhicheng and winny's lil kitchen that they brought with them in their luggages, we get to enjoy such luxury.and GUESS WHATS GUYS im finally learning to cook! heh zhicheng's been such a great chef, and a great teacher too.so im slowly learning..learning to cook tau kay, potato salad (haha okay i know its probably dam easy for some of you so shuttup) AND RICE hahah how much water to put how to cut the potato how much sauce to add what to add blahh blahh blahh...its been a really fulfiling experience so far and im enjoying this independent lifestyle. which also includes being able to do my own laundry, plan my day and get to interact with so many different pple from different parts of the world to find out their kind of lives.its really scary how i start to realise how ignorant and naive we are, esp since we have been stuck in our own comfort zone in this small lil part of the world. honestly im glad we are all going through this together, and most importantly i absolutely cannot wait to show you guys (pegs and gross, hopefully bobbs too!) around puebla.im pretty dam sure you all will love it too:) and lastly, just so you know we are happy and safe, here is a photo of us in puebla:) will upload more photos soon, but that gotta wait til another day cos im heading to bed now! its 1.27am now and ive got classes at 10 tmr so i need my sleep. ahhhh adios (bye) and buenas noches (goodnight)! xxx

hello all since this blog seems to be r o t t i n g i shall do the honour of reviving it :) the countdown is really getting quite intense now, with only a couple of weeks before zhicheng and i head to mehico! anyway here comes the most important purpose of this blog entry: FLIGHT DETAILS FOR SENDOFFFF heh okay im not expecting you guys to come see us off cos its freaking early and i know most of my friends will probably be in slumberland at that time hee.but of cos it would be nice to see you guys before we leave:) so here goes, its terminal 1, taking the cathay pacific flight at 11am to newyork. ahhhh truth is i have never gone out of singapore for more than a month before so this is going to be quite a significant time of my life. hope everything goes smoothly and all of us will have a safe and fulfilling stay abroad:) i better be seeing you guys very soon, even if means resuming our weekly poker session or just going out for a simple meal. but for now, its back to work!
